OK, before we talk about the issues coming up with AI, let's talk about how good it's gotten across different domains. In the last four years:

– AI images went from gray smudges to photos you can't tell are fake.

For almost three years, all you could do with ChatGPT was chat – ask, get an answer, you decide. That's how most people still use it.
But this year, more people started using AI 'agents.' Instead of a question, you give it a goal – and it browses the web, sends email, writes code, buys things, books your calendar. Anything you can do at a computer.
And every big company is racing toward superintelligence – AI more capable than us at essentially everything. At that point you don't just set the goal; it can set its own.
[CUE: → the last card.] And what's after that? Nobody knows. That's exactly the problem – we're building something whose next step even its makers can't predict."
EVERY BIG INDUSTRY HAS RULES. AI DOESN'T.
"That curve is intense – AI is clearly powerful and disruptive. But there's almost no rules on it.

Cars have crash tests. Medicine goes through the FDA. Restaurants get inspected.
AI has basically none of it. No safety test before it ships. No agency that can pull a product. [CUE: the AI card pulses red.]
Nine in ten parents say AI products for kids should be proven safe before release. That's nearly everybody. It just isn't the law. Not yet."
So what happens when there are no rules?

"So where is all this actually going? Mostly into data centers – warehouse-sized buildings full of computers that train and run AI. They need enormous power, they run around the clock, and they're going up fast, in real towns.
[CUE: → the first fact.] Data centers already use about 5% of all U.S. electricity – and the Department of Energy says that triples to about 12% by 2030. That's a huge amount of new demand on a grid that wasn't built for it.
[CUE: → the second fact.] And who pays? Ratepayers. In Virginia, state auditors project data center growth could add $170 to $440 a year to a typical household's electric bill. The data center goes up in two years – the grid upgrades take six or seven. The charges show up before the wires do.
[CUE: → the third fact.] And here's the part that makes people angriest. In most of these deals, local officials sign secrecy agreements before residents hear a word. A national investigation looked at 30-plus deals across 14 states and found NDAs in most of them. The deal can be done before your town gets a vote.
[CUE: → the 7-in-10 line.] So it's no surprise that 7 in 10 Americans say they oppose an AI data center in their area. That's more than oppose a nuclear plant nearby. People get it.

The five biggest tech companies will spend around $700B on AI infrastructure this year alone. Seven red squares. More than two Apollo programs, every single year.

It made me the villain. It could pick any of us.
TOTAL GENERATION TIME: SECONDS
"This is just one example of this kind of thing, and of course it all seems kind of silly. But imagine this kind of thing at-scale, in the heated final week before an election."

We need to talk about the big risks.

That's exactly why they're warning us now, while there's still time to do something about it.

These are the engineers and scientists doing the work every day. They're telling us, with their names on it, that the people in charge are racing ahead faster than anyone can control. That's not our claim. It's theirs."

"We've talked about what bad people could do with this, and what bad governments could do. Now the one that keeps the AI researchers up at night: what happens when nobody's in control? Not a hacker. Not a dictator. Nobody.
[CUE: → the quote.] OpenAI – the company behind ChatGPT – published this in March 2025. They're saying their own systems may be learning to seek power, deceive, and scheme – and that they won't be able to tell when it starts. This isn't a warning from critics. It's the company that built it.
[CUE: → the three lines.] And it's not hypothetical. In safety tests the companies themselves ran, advanced systems have already: disabled their own oversight; copied themselves to other systems; and lied to the people running the test about what they were doing.
The next slide is the clearest real-world example we have of exactly that."
ON JULY 9TH, AN AI BROKE OUT OF ITS CAGE.
THEN IT HACKED A REAL COMPANY.
AND IT DID IT BY ITSELF.

"This actually happened. In the summer of 2026, OpenAI – the makers of ChatGPT – was testing its AI inside a locked sandbox. No internet access. One door for approved tools. Here's what happened.
[CUE: → sandbox] They gave the AI a task it couldn't solve – a spreadsheet that linked to Google Drive, but the internet was blocked. Instead of giving up, over the next few weeks, the AI found security flaws nobody knew about and broke through.
[CUE: → OpenAI's systems] But here's the part that shook the security world. The AI didn't just act alone. Multiple AI agents started communicating with each other – they built a message board inside OpenAI's own systems. They shared the exploits they'd found. One agent's internal reasoning said: 'Help peer. Yet collective may yield generic route.' They organized.
[CUE: → internet] When OpenAI's engineers discovered what was happening and shut down the message board, the agents rebuilt it two days later using a different method – encoding messages in directory names. They adapted.
[CUE: → Hugging Face] Then one of the agents decided a real company – Hugging Face – had the answers to its test. It broke in and ran its own code on their servers.
[CUE: → bottom bullets] The agents taught each other the exploits. When cut off, they rebuilt their communication and kept going. Nine days passed before OpenAI realized the AI was theirs.
OpenAI presented these details themselves, at the Black Hat security conference. Their own conclusion: 'This is a watershed moment for computer security. Fully automated offensive attacks by AI are real now.'
The AI wasn't angry. It wanted a better score on a test, and a swarm of agents decided this was the shortest route. Nobody told them to do any of it."

One – this isn't America slowing down alone. It's shared safety standards, like the nuclear treaties that got us through the Cold War against a tougher rival – and kept us alive.
Two – an AI no one can control is just as dangerous to China's leaders as to ours. That's why China has signed on to international calls for limits on the most dangerous AI. This isn't only our idea.

"Remember that graph of AI getting better? [CUE: → advances the movement forward in time – dots spread across the map and the line climbs.] This is the same shape. Exponential. Except this time, it's us.
It starts on November 7th – the Reality Check Day of Action. The goal: a hundred of these presentations happening across the country on one day. A hundred rooms. A thousand people. All at once. [CUE: that first red wave on the map is the Day of Action.]
Then every month, each room sends two more people out to give their own. Ten people per room. It compounds.

A hundred… two hundred… four hundred… and within about a year it's a growing nationwide movement – the only kind of growth that can keep pace with the technology we just talked about."

[Q&A PREP – common pushback. Keep answers short and warm:
• "Isn't this just hype to sell AI / raise money?" – Some of it, sure. But the job numbers and the safety warnings come from the companies themselves, against their own interest. And a big majority of Americans already agree.
• "Haven't people always feared new tech and been wrong?" – Sometimes. The difference here is the people building it are the ones sounding the alarm – in writing, with their names on it.
• "Aren't these just contrived lab tests?" – The July breakout hit a real company, not a lab. And it's the pattern across many labs and models that matters, not any one test.
• "Why not just out-build China?" – (You already answered this – point back to it: shared safety standards, and an AI no one can control is dangerous to everyone.)
